Professional softball is coming to Trussville.
The Professional Softball League (PSL) announced that the Birmingham metropolitan area will host the league’s inaugural PSL Championship Week from Aug. 4-8, bringing the top teams and athletes from the league’s first season to the region for a week of competition and celebration.

Championship Week will begin Tuesday with the PSL Awards Banquet in Birmingham, recognizing the league’s top players, coaches and contributors from its inaugural season. The action then shifts to Bill Roberts Stadium in Trussville, where the top three teams from the 2026 PSL regular season will compete Wednesday-Saturday for the first PSL Championship in league history. All championship games will be broadcast nationally on AWSN, the All Women’s Sports Network.
The event is expected to draw athletes, coaches, staff, families, sponsors and fans from across the country, with teams and league personnel staying throughout the Birmingham metro area during Championship Week.
“We are excited to bring the PSL Championship to the Birmingham region and showcase one of the country’s great softball communities,” said Jeremy McDowell, founder and owner within the Professional Softball League and President of the Kansas City Diamonds, in a press release. “As we built the league, we wanted our championship to be more than just games. We wanted it to be a destination event that celebrates our athletes, our fans, and the continued growth of professional softball. Birmingham provides the perfect stage for that vision.”
The PSL’s inaugural season featured six teams competing across the country, including the Atlanta Smoke, Chattanooga Chill, Florida Breeze, Florida Vibe, Kansas City Diamonds and New York Rise. Only the top three teams in the final regular-season standings will advance to Championship Week.

The league launched Dec. 10, 2025, and opened its first season June 12. Its games have aired on AWSN throughout the year, with the regular season set to wrap up July 31 before the postseason shifts to Trussville.
The championship is the latest milestone for Bill Roberts Stadium, which opened in February as the new home of Hewitt-Trussville High School softball. The facility, located across the street from Hewitt-Trussville Stadium and the Trussville Civic Center, features a turf field, a press box and an awning to cover the bleachers, along with a separate building beyond right field housing the locker room, coaches’ offices and batting cages. The Huskies christened the venue with a win over West End on Feb. 21, and it has quickly become one of the top softball-only facilities in the state.
