ALAS, let’s dive into the wide world of high school softball in our beloved state of Alabama. What you’ll see with each class is summary of last year’s state tournament teams, select blurbs from teams whose coaches responded to an email questionnaire (see very bottom of article), and the Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings as of April 9.

Class 7A

Hewitt-Trussville
Outlook: The Huskies enter 2026 with a noticeably young group, returning just three starters from last year. Head coach Taylor Burt knows patience will be required. Senior Corey Goguts, an Ole Miss commit who bashed 31 home runs and drove in 78 runs in 2025, will split time between first base and the outfield. Senior Lauren Whitaker will be a key piece in what figures to be a pitching staff built by committee, alongside junior Rachel Reed and junior Harper Looney. Junior Presley Hull, a UAB commit who hit .403 last season, is a valuable returner, and sophomore Erin Coleman hit .385 in the second half of last year and is expected to take on a bigger role. Six eighth graders are capable of competing at the varsity level as well. The Huskies have also opened a new stadium this season.

Coach Taylor Burt said: “We’re going to be inexperienced, so we’re going to have to learn as we go.”
Vestavia Hills
Outlook: The Rebels have been on the doorstep in recent years and believe 2026 could be the year they take the next step. The pitching circle is a potential strength, with Kate Flanagan and Lilly Ferguson returning after logging significant varsity innings. Flanagan, who was thrust into a major role as a seventh grader, led the team in innings pitched last season. Junior Hollon Gay also returns after missing all of last year due to injury. Sophomore Hannah Walker is a three-year starter at shortstop, and senior Chloe Leahy, a Shelton State commit, anchors third base for the fourth straight season. Freshmen Olivia Adkins and Ryanne Head are expected to contribute immediately.
Seniors: Chloe Leahy (Shelton State).
Coach John Simmons said: “How we have matured from last year and how we will grow and mature throughout the course of the season is probably going to tell the tale for us.”
Hoover
Outlook: The Buccaneers return a large portion of their lineup and have six seniors leading the way. Reagan Lawson, who started in the outfield last year and is drawing college interest, will be a force at the top of the lineup. Mollie Hanson, a Berry College signee, is one of the top returning players in the area. Avery Chaney, a Troy University commit, is anchoring the middle infield at shortstop. The biggest question mark is replacing the innings and leadership of the Westhoven twins in the circle and behind the plate. Two young pitchers, Aaliyah Hayes and Caroline Chaney, will carry much of that load, with Anabelle Beasley, Bella Simpson and Gabbi Berzette also factoring into the rotation. Hailey Nichols is in line to take on a larger role behind the plate.
Seniors: OF Reagan Lawson, 3B Mollie Hanson (Berry), SS Avery Chaney (Troy), Cheyenne Conner (Bevill State volleyball), Avi Davis, Ava Hartman, Bri Morales.

Oak Mountain
Outlook: The Eagles are young on paper, with just one senior in Sheridan Andrews, but in the circle, Maddie Prevallet and Marian Cummings return and have responded well to an increased level of intensity in their preparation.
Seniors: Sheridan Andrews.
Coach Telma O’Neal said: “When you look at it, it’s more about everybody owning their role and making sure that within their role, they’re being accountable and bringing their best competitive spirit when we compete and when we’re training.”
Tuscaloosa County
Outlook: Connor Acton enters his third season at Tuscaloosa County with a roster that looks different from a year ago after losing four seniors and a sophomore who relocated. The good news is that much of this group has been seeing varsity action for the last two years, so experience remains on the field. Kensley Spann is closing in on 200 career hits, one of the milestones to watch this spring.
Seniors: Laci Howell.
Coach Connor Acton said: “I expect us to be competing to get back into the postseason again this year.”
Austin
Outlook: The Black Bears are coming off a historic season that saw the program reach the state tournament for the first time in 12 years, and the returning core is motivated to build on that breakthrough. Senior Arden Breedlove, a Mississippi College commit, posted a .535 average with 24 home runs and 82 RBI in 2025 and was named the Decatur Daily Class 5A-7A All-Area Player of the Year. Senior transfer Marissa Adams, a Northwest Shoals commit, went for 15 wins pitching and posted a .438 average a season ago. Sophomore Callie Lang went 25-12 with 152 strikeouts last season, and sophomore Khalilah Mason hit .348 with 63 runs and 55 stolen bases. Eighth grader Evelyn Lamb is expected to step into a significantly larger role after a standout fall.

Coach Blake Gray said: “Although we graduated three seniors from last year’s roster, the team added two senior transfers and returns a group that gained valuable experience as a young squad a season ago.”
Dothan
Outlook: The Wolves are hungry after falling short at the regional tournament last year and have their sights set on returning to the state tournament. Dothan lost just two seniors from last year’s group and returns a core ready to make a push. Sophomores Kinley German and Jada Newman are back as key contributors.
Seniors: Brantlee McCarthy, Laney Calhoun, Lillian Shaughnessy (Southern Union), Harmoni Descalzi (Enterprise State).
Returning all-state players: Savanna Kendrick, Jada Newman.
Coach Donny Bright said: “Our girls have returned hungry for success. They were not happy that we did not get out of the regional tournament.”
Auburn
Outlook: Auburn returns seven players from the 2025 team that finished in the final four, and the Tigers’ motto this year is to play on the last day again. Head coach Matt Hendricks says the pitching is top tier, and the team is looking to be more dynamic offensively than in years past. Five seniors provide veteran leadership.
Seniors: C Emma Kate Penton (Southeastern University), OF Laina Rae Sawyer (Lurleen B. Wallace), C/2B Peyton Fitzgerald (Chipola), OF Caitlyn Brock (Tuskegee University), Reese Kelley.
Returning all-state players: Lily Brewer.
Huntsville
Outlook: The Panthers are very young but return eight of nine starters, including three all-state selections from 2025. Junior Amya Duster, a UNA commit, returns as a first-team all-state pick. Emma Harwood and Caylee Cowan are also back after earning all-state honors last season.

Coach Whitney Deaver said: “Excited to see how this team comes together. They have been working really hard in the fall and preseason.”
James Clemens
Outlook: James Clemens started six freshmen and one eighth grader on varsity last season, and that young group returns with a year of experience under their belts. The Jets have four seniors and have worked hard in the offseason committed to having a successful season. Head coach Bradley Kimbrough is approaching 200 career wins.
Seniors: Annie Delancey, Farrah Payton (Central Alabama CC), Hayden Southern, Sayde South.
Mary G. Montgomery
Outlook: The Vikings are in the midst of a youth movement, having graduated five players in 2023, five in 2024 and seven in 2025. This year’s varsity roster consists of just three seniors, one junior, five sophomores, one freshman and one eighth grader. The bulk of pitching will come from the sophomore class, and the team will be green but competitive.
Seniors: Emma Hawsey, Emily Coates, Bailey Campbell.
Florence
Outlook: Florence has a strong nucleus of senior leadership that has set the tone since the start of the school year. The Eagles have the opportunity to make school history by becoming the only team to reach the postseason two years in a row.

Outlook: Head coach Donna Sunnycalb will attempt to use this article as motivation, so here is the “they really aren’t that good” line. But now for the truth, the Spartans were a few runs away from a state championship last year and are right back among the elite of Class 6A so far this year.
Returning all-state players: P Myleigh Dobbins
Spain Park
Outlook: Spain Park believes it is ready to take the next step. The Jaguars advanced to regionals last season and enter 2026 with a sense that this group has the pieces to push even further. The senior class includes Allie Whitaker (Mississippi College), Klara Thompson (Mercer), Teagan Huey and Mary Payton Dees, a group head coach Allyson Ritenour has coached since middle school. Whitaker will work at third base and shortstop, Thompson anchors the middle infield, Huey brings versatility to the corners and Dees contributes in the circle and outfield. Among the returning juniors are Reagan Roberts, Abby King and Jaley Young, a Wallace State commit. Sophomore Jordan Weiner and several freshmen who gained varsity experience last season round out a roster that also features Abby King, a BYU commit who will pitch and play the outfield.
Seniors: Allie Whitaker (Mississippi College), Klara Thompson (Mercer), Teagan Huey, Mary Payton Dees.
Coach Allyson Ritenour said: “Being consistent and very intentional is probably going to be our biggest thing.”
Wetumpka
Outlook: The Indians are very excited about their group this season after going 43-7 in 2025 and falling just short at regionals. They return an experienced bunch with five seniors, seven juniors and a few new pieces they are eager to incorporate. The group works hard and plays with confidence, with their sights firmly set on making it back to Oxford.
Seniors: C Alyssa Brown (Grambling), SS Bailey Carlisle (Huntingdon College), Kyla Richardson, Madison Calloway, McKaela Pinkham.
Returning all-state players: Bailey Carlisle, Abigail Adams, Autymn Hollon.
Coach Daryl Otwell said: “This group works extremely hard and plays with a lot of confidence. Working hard each day to make it back to Oxford.”
Brookwood
Outlook: Brookwood made it to the state tournament for the second time in school history last season and is determined to return there. The Panthers are led by seven seniors and will also depend on younger players to fill some holes.
Seniors: P/1B Amori Morrison (Shelton State), Riley Humphryes (Shelton State), P/IF/OF Layla Steele (Shelton State), Katie Clark, Bailey Garner, Lainey Green, Shelby Parker.
Coach Danel Clark said: “Our success this year will depend on how well our veteran and young players mesh together.”
Returning all-state players: Amori Morrison.
Athens
Outlook: Athens finished one game short of the state final last year and that has driven this team all offseason. The Golden Eagles return all pitchers and add Cheyenne Russell to the staff. The roster features a mix of experienced seniors and plenty of youth, including two eighth graders, three freshmen and three sophomores. Senior Caitlyn Tedford, a UNA commit, and senior Jaicey Harty, also a UNA commit, lead the way.
Seniors: OF Caitlyn Tedford (UNA), IF Jaicey Harty (UNA), Camry Townsend (Calhoun CC), Cheyenne Russell.
Returning all-state players: Caitlyn Tedford, Jaicey Harty.
Coach Chuck Smith said: “This group brings the energy each day no matter if it is on the field or weight room, they care about each other and want everyone to succeed.”
Mountain Brook
Outlook: Head coach Brittany Vintson believes the culture is now in place at Mountain Brook and the focus has shifted to building a program that wins consistently. The theme this season centers on effort, discipline, grit and energy — what Vintson calls having an edge. The Spartans remain young, with seventh and eighth graders alongside a large group of sophomores, making the senior leadership of Anna Kate Shea, Reagan Rape and Marianna Murray especially important. Murray returns at third base, Rape will patrol center field and Shea will likely play left field. Junior Anne Turner Goldman handles catching duties. In the circle, Mackenzie Wedell and Rape return, with Charlotte Kearse expected to be a key piece after being brought up at the end of last year.
Seniors: Anna Kate Shea, Reagan Rape, Marianna Murray.
Returning all-state players: Reagan Rape.
Coach Brittany Vintson said: “They lead by example on and off the field. It comes from a place of love, but they hold their teammates accountable and push them to be the best.”
Homewood
Outlook: Homewood is looking to take the next step after earning a 20-win season last spring. Head coach Arica Moss believes this year’s team has the pieces to build on that foundation, with a good mix of young and seasoned players. Senior catcher Lauren Smith anchors the defense behind the plate, senior Talley Hatcher returns in the circle and senior Rebecca Henderson rounds out the class. Junior Madison Letson, a Northwest Shoals commit, returns as the leadoff hitter and center fielder. Junior shortstop Kloeanne Smith and junior infielder Allie Stuman, a Huntingdon College commit, are key bats in the lineup. Sophomore Anne Hope Howell returns after emerging on the mound last season.
Seniors: C Lauren Smith, P/OF Talley Hatcher, Rebecca Henderson.
Coach Arica Moss said: “We hope to be a team that competes every game regardless of the opponent. The major goal for us is to make it to state this year.”
Chelsea
Outlook: Head coach Scott Lowery likes the foundation his program has built and believes the Hornets have the right mix of experience and hungry talent to take another step. Senior Caroline Brown, a Louisiana Tech commit, has embraced a bigger leadership role while continuing to improve. Seniors Madeline Kelley and Sadie Wilson provide stability. The junior group includes Lauren Hilyer, Julia Willingham and Aubrey Ross. In the circle, Lorelei Beck headlines the pitching staff, with Taylor Merifield and Lydia Dobrinski also expected to throw plenty of innings. Ninth grader Sadie Sutton is a young arm who could see expanded varsity time.
Seniors: Caroline Brown (Louisiana Tech), Madeline Kelley (Northwest Shoals), Sadie Wilson.
Coach Scott Lowery said: “They’re not scared of anybody anymore.”
Pelham
Outlook: The Panthers return talent despite losing a few key players and welcome Tee King and Aubrie Smith, stars from other sports, to the senior class. A few underclassmen will have to step up and fill big roles on varsity. The team features three sets of sisters this season. Senior Jordan Young, a Columbia University commit, is closing in on 20 career home runs.
Seniors: Jordan Young (Columbia), Taylor Howard (Wallace State), Laini Stewart (Itawamba CC), Ryann Jones (Stillman College), Briley Easton, Tee King, Aubrie Smith.
Coach Rachael McClure said: “Hoping we can peak at the right time.”
Cullman
Outlook: The Bearcats enter 2026 with energy and a desire to compete at a high level. With only one senior, Cullman is young but returns plenty of experience up and down the lineup. Junior Hattie Graham has committed to Northeast Alabama Community College and is among the key returners alongside Abby Maples, Kynlei Storey, Dracen Bates, Allie Johnson, Leighton McGriff and Haylee Little.
Seniors: OF Reese Hopper.
Coach Drew Bryson said: “Although we are young, we return plenty of experience. We’ve had a very productive offseason and preseason, and have established a strong culture within the program.”
Chilton County
Outlook: Chilton County looks to build off a very successful 2025 season in which the Tigers set a school record with 34 wins and fell one game short at regionals against the eventual state champion. The Tigers return all of their pitching and have just two seniors. Sophomore Kaylee Dunn, a second-team all-state selection last year, is a key piece to watch.
Seniors: Mallie Harrison, Chloe Shiers (Shelton State).
Returning all-state players: Kaylee Dunn.
Coach Dustin Dunn said: “We have a tough schedule, intended to challenge us early on so we can hopefully make a push into late May.”
Clay-Chalkville
Outlook: Junior Kaidyn Williams and sophomore Maria Crider have had great seasons so far at the plate, both batting over .550. Pitchers Anna Campbell, Akira Tellis and Jerica Tyree have combined for four no-hitters. Other standouts for the season have been sophomore Shyanne Holman, senior Kayden Hasberry, and seventh grader Roleigh Tyree.
Coach Chris Stephenson said: “It’s a huge accomplishment for our ladies to even be discussed when talking about softball.”

Outlook: The Bulldogs are excited about their final year in 5A before heading back down to 4A, and they are hoping to make some noise with a talented senior class. Senior pitcher Elizabeth Murphy, a Blue Mountain Christian University commit, is closing in on 50 career wins. Senior Kelsey Green is committed to Northeast Alabama Community College, senior Madison Lafountain is headed to Columbia State Community College and senior Peyton Goss rounds out the class. Coach Matt Morris is also within range of 200 wins at Priceville.
Seniors: P Elizabeth Murphy (Blue Mountain Christian), INF/P Kelsey Green (Northeast Alabama CC), OF Madison Lafountain (Columbia State CC), Peyton Goss.
Returning all-state players: Elizabeth Murphy.
Ardmore
Outlook: Ardmore lost six key players from last season and knew coming in that players would have to shift into different roles. Coach Whitney King says those players have responded well to the challenge. The team is very young but scrappy, with no seniors on the roster. King believes the team will be a more consistent hitting team from top to bottom this season.
Seniors: None.
East Limestone
Outlook: East Limestone returns plenty of experience under head coach Brett Nave, who is in his 26th year leading the program with 572 wins entering the campaign. Three seniors anchor the roster, including catcher Grace Bielat, center fielder Kailey Matthews and shortstop Mahaley Lassie, all of whom are college bound. Freshman pitcher Abby Thompson and freshman first baseman Scarlett Brown are young players to watch.
Seniors: C Grace Bielat (Calhoun CC), CF Kailey Matthews (Southern Union CC), SS Mahaley Lassie (Southern Union CC).
West Point
Outlook: West Point will be young again this year but talented. Senior Kara Jones, a UT Southern commit, and senior Kealie Harbison headline the roster. Junior Averee Folds, who has offers from Snead State and Enterprise CC, and junior Lauren Windham are key returners. The next two pitchers in line are both freshmen in Zailee Love and Bai McSwain, and an eighth grader is projected to start at third base.
Seniors: P Kara Jones (UT Southern), OF Kealie Harbison.
Russellville
Outlook: After a tough start to 2025 due to youth and inexperience, Russellville has grown into a solid team heading into 2026. All players return from last season, giving the Golden Tigers a familiarity with the system that has expectations running high. The area race figures to be competitive, with Russellville, Lawrence County and West Point all capable of making a run. The lone senior is Laila Hill, who will add depth to the lineup with her power.
Seniors: Laila Hill.
Coach Rick Lawson said: “Our expectations this year are pretty high as the players know the system and are working hard to achieve their goals of reaching the state tournament.”
Hayden
Outlook: After starting 2-11 last season, the Wildcats finished 28-19 and come into 2026 hungry. Three seniors are committed to college programs at Bevill State, Missouri Baptist and Chipola, and the lone junior on the roster has committed to Northwest Shoals. Hayden will have a fight in its area with Springville and Corner but believes it has the work put in to get back to Oxford.
Coach William Wrenn said: “We want to get back to Oxford.”
Arab
Outlook: The Knights look to continue building positive momentum this season after losing five starters from last year’s team. Young players Madi Hartline and Emerson Christian are poised for solid seasons. The team has great chemistry entering the year.
Seniors: Ella Blackmon, Emma Harris.
Coach Jarid Moore said: “We have a group of young players eager to prove themselves. This team has great chemistry, and I am excited to see what they can accomplish.”

Curry
Outlook: Coming off a school-record 54-5 season that ended one win short of a state title, Curry will look to replace Alabama Miss Softball Ambrey Taylor and several other key contributors. The Yellow Jackets return all-state performers Ansley Brown, Shileigh Williams and Skiely Perry, along with Ralee Dunagan and Kerra Aaron. Head coach Dave Lawson enters his eighth year with a record of 303-74 and will count on talented young players to step up as the season progresses.
Returning all-state players: Skiely Perry, Ansley Brown, Shileigh Williams.
Coach Dave Lawson said: “If they step up and improve as the year goes on we should be pretty good by season’s end when it matters most.”
West Limestone
Outlook: West Limestone went 44-7 last season and enters 2026 having graduated three significant seniors in Lilly Bethune, JuliAnn Kyle and Haley Waggoner. Head coach Molly Fenn likes the experience returning on the roster, with just a couple of spots to fill with new faces. Key returners include juniors Lilee Legg and Ella Yarbrough, sophomore Aubrey Bethune, sophomore Katie Lyn Kyle, sophomore Jaidin Hargrove, freshman Brylie Posey and freshman Lucee Legg. Senior Raelee Campbell is a key newcomer, along with junior Makenna Bower and seventh grader Anna Hardiman. The team motto this season is simple: win when it matters.
Seniors: Raelee Campbell.
Returning all-state players: Aubrey Bethune.
Coach Molly Fenn said: “Our girls have worked incredibly hard this offseason, and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish together.”
Deshler
Outlook: Deshler enters 2026 with a hungry group that boasts plenty of varsity experience. This is the first year in a while the Tigers have seniors on the field, and great things could happen if the team stays focused on being great teammates. Senior Alivia Lewis, a Northwest Shoals commit closing in on 500 career strikeouts in three years of varsity ball, and senior Makayla Willingham, who is chasing the school home run record, both lead the way in the circle and at the plate. Junior Kendall Scogin missed much of last year due to a leg injury and will be a key returning presence at the top of the lineup. Sophomore Havah Standridge has put in significant work and is expected to take on a bigger role at the plate. Freshman Madelyn Barnette and junior Addison Booth are newcomers with high expectations.
Seniors: P Alivia Lewis (Northwest Shoals CC), Makayla Willingham (Northwest Shoals CC), Kiersten Willingham, Kaili Congleton.
Returning all-state players: Alivia Lewis.
Coach Bailey Martin said: “Great things can happen this year if we aren’t worried about who gets the credit and focus on being great teammates.”
Satsuma
Outlook: Satsuma remains confident heading into 2026 despite graduating a large senior class. Strong leadership and younger players ready to carry on the culture keep expectations high. The goal of bringing hardware back from Oxford remains the same. Senior Anna Jo Bonds, a Troy University commit, is 17 RBI away from 200 for her career. Senior Presley Willis, a University of Mobile commit, is five hits away from 200 and 31 putouts away from 900. Head coach Lauren Stewart has also passed 200 wins as a head coach.
Seniors: Anna Jo Bonds (Troy), Presley Willis (University of Mobile), Addison Taylor (Coastal AL North).
Coach Lauren Stewart said: “Our goal of bringing back some hardware from Oxford remains the same — one pitch at a time.”
DAR
Outlook: DAR returns 11 players and enters 2026 with a junior and sophomore heavy class, many of whom have been playing varsity ball since middle school. Senior Nataly Grimmett has signed to play at Snead State Community College, and senior Hallie Whitaker is an important leader for the program. Sophomore Kendall Treece is a pitcher and third baseman coming off a strong freshman year and a great offseason. Junior Ansleigh House, junior Mac Ford and sophomore shortstop Aubrey Haas are key returners, all of whom have been varsity starters since seventh grade.
Seniors: Nataly Grimmett (Snead State CC), Hallie Whitaker.
New Hope
Outlook: New Hope will be scrappy and competitive this season. Senior Atlanta Copeland, signed with Calhoun Community College, leads the way. Players to watch include Ella Baswell, Alyssa Stapler and Charlee Bearden.
Seniors: Atlanta Copeland (Calhoun CC).
Returning all-state players: Ella Baswell.
Munford
Outlook: Munford enters 2026 with one of the best teams it has had in years. The Lions are three-time Talladega County champions and looking to make it four, while also aiming to advance through regionals and reach the state tournament. Six seniors anchor the roster and the team features two pitchers — junior Brooklyn Pressley and sophomore Madison Arnold — both of whom had over 100 strikeouts last season.
Seniors: C Chloe Pickette (Marion Military Institute), CF Jena Gaither (Central Alabama CC), 3B Kastin Lathem, OF Bayleigh Durham, UT Marlie Hall (Oakwood University), Natalie Garrett.
Madison County
Outlook: Madison County is coming off a huge regional run last year and lost a number of experienced players that helped build a winning culture. The Tigers will lean on a strong upper class and young talented pitching to continue that success. Senior Taylor Wells has signed with Shorter University and senior Mylee Hill has signed with UAH.

Colbert County
Outlook: New head coach Will Inman is excited about what he has walked into at Colbert County, calling the pitcher-catcher duo of Makayli Davis and Hallie Holland arguably the best in North Alabama. Davis, a UNA signee, is 172 strikeouts away from 1,000 in her high school career. Inman, who enters his fourth year as a head coach with a 95-62 overall record entering the year, has now surpassed 100 wins. Young players Kylee Holland, Faith Matlock and Creleigh Gargis are expected to contribute as well.
Returning all-state players: Makayli Davis, Hallie Holland.
Coach Will Inman said: “The girls here love softball and have some talent. They have bought into our program and we can’t wait to see the fruits of their labor.”
Mars Hill
Outlook: Mars Hill lost three key pieces from last year’s group but has young players ready to step up and fill those roles. Junior Molly Wright, a UNA commit, currently holds the school career steals record with 172 entering the year and is expected to surpass 200 this season. Senior Brie Robertson rounds out the roster.
Seniors: Brie Robertson.
Returning all-state players: Molly Wright.
Coach Mollie Lowry said: “We lost three huge pieces last year, but we have kids who are young and excited to step up and fill those roles.”
Randolph County
Outlook: Randolph County made its first ever state appearance last season after finishing as area champions and regional qualifiers with a 22-14 record. Senior Gracie Huckeba, who attended the Alabama North-South All-Star game and has committed to Southern Union, is the lone senior. Last year’s all-state players Bryer Thompson and Hannah Parmer both return.
Seniors: Gracie Huckeba (Southern Union).
Returning all-state players: Bryer Thompson, Hannah Parmer.
Coach Robyn Wortham-Thompson said: “Last year we were 22-14 and were Area Champs, Regional Qualifier and made our 1st ever State Appearance.”
Cottage Hill
Outlook: Cottage Hill returns seven varsity starters from a 2025 squad that finished as area runner-up and reached the second round of regionals. Four new players join the varsity lineup, including transfers Heidi Willett and Kinley Prater, who played JV last year, along with utility player Olivia Collier and seventh grade catcher Anaya Davis. Continuous all-area players Emma Robbins, Madison Brown, Jaycee Mosley and Jaylyn Mosley give the Lions a strong foundation. Senior Kennedy Jones, a four-year varsity starter committed to Huntingdon College, is the lone senior and will be counted on for her speed and coverage in center field. Seniors: CF Kennedy Jones (Huntingdon College).
Coach Krista Womble said: “We should have a solid chance of making it into the state championship in 3A.”
Hale County
Outlook: Hale County won 3A, Area 7 last year for the first time since 2020 and enters 2026 with an extremely young roster. With two projected eighth graders and three projected freshmen in the starting lineup, this may be as young a team as Hale County has fielded in some time. Senior JJ McDaniel is the captain and leader, a shortstop, pitcher and center fielder who hit .400 with 30 runs scored and went 25-for-25 on stolen bases last year. Junior Carmen Beard led the hit .322 as a sophomore. Freshman Adalyn Seale racked up five doubles, two triples and a home run as an eighth grader last season and will play outfield and some third base.
Seniors: JJ McDaniel.
Coach Matt Lofthus said: “This season, the staff has been harping on commitment; thus far, the team has committed to giving their best effort in the cages, weight room, and on the field.”
Weaver
Outlook: Weaver’s varsity squad is super young and scrappy, consisting of two juniors and the rest freshmen. As eighth graders, they earned a regional berth, and have put in the work this offseason to become more fundamentally sound.

Outlook: Sumiton Christian is always a contender and enters 2026 with a young but talented group. Coach Jessica Aderholt has two seniors leading the way in Jordyn Chapman and Hayden McCrary. Young players Myleigh Reid and Ava McCrary are ones to watch as the season gets going.
Seniors: Jordyn Chapman, Hayden McCrary.
Coach Jessica Aderholt said: “We always want to be better than before and we will strive for that.”
Belgreen
Outlook: Belgreen graduated two key senior leaders from last season but returns seven starters along with three to four additional players who saw significant playing time. A major strength will be the returning junior pitchers Zoey Blaxton and Jemma Moore, both of whom experienced success last season. The schedule is considerably more challenging this year with the addition of Winfield, East Lawrence, Florence and Russellville. Five seniors will be counted on for leadership, with Bryn Scott and Mackinley Hogan returning as starting outfielders and key defensive contributors. Scott is the leadoff hitter and hit over .500 during last year’s postseason, with a chance to finish her career with an on-base percentage above .500.
Seniors: Bryn Scott, Mackinley Hogan, Laura Beth Seal, Shaylyn Bryant, Carson Hovater.
Returning all-state players: Jemma Moore.
Coach Sander Tverberg said: “This is a talented group with the opportunity to accomplish some major goals.”
Tuscaloosa Academy
Outlook: Tuscaloosa Academy is looking to put together back-to-back winning seasons and make back-to-back regional appearances for the first time in program history. The Lions return seven starters and have no seniors, with multiple players under the 11th grade starting. Eighth grader Lillian Johnson led the team in batting average last year and will play a big role again. Junior Lily Lucas returns for her fourth year as a varsity starter and will lead the pitching staff.
Coach Colt Youngblood said: “I think this team is ready for a breakout season. The players have all bought into the program and our standard.”

Skyline
Outlook: Skyline came up one game short of the state tournament last year and enters 2026 hungry to make that trip to Oxford. The Vikings are young, with no juniors and one sophomore in Hadley Epps, who pitched well last year as a freshman and also plays center field. Senior Brinna Wilson is the lone senior and a key pitcher who has had a huge impact for the program. Several returning freshmen who were eighth graders last year will play big roles, including middle infielders Adalyn Bellomy and Claire Wallingsford, who played well together last season. Eighth graders Maddux Wininger, Bentlee Romans, Bailey Fisk and Brinlynn Stephens are all expected to contribute significant innings and at-bats.
Seniors: Brinna Wilson.
Returning all-state players: Hadley Epps.
Coach Slade Bellomy said: “Our goal, like every year, is to make the trip to Oxford. We came up one game short last year but the younger girls had never experienced that level and they performed a lot better than many people thought they would.”
Brantley
Outlook: Brantley is coming off a disappointing 2025 season in which the Bulldogs missed the state tournament for the first time since 2013, finishing 25-13. The core of this year’s team is the junior class, led by Alex Grimes in the circle and at the plate, CoCo Stamps, a slapper who led the team with 40 stolen bases last year, and Marley Kilcrease at shortstop, who led the team with a .396 batting average. Freshman Kennedy Baggett hit .351 last year and also pitches, though she is returning from elbow surgery. The lone senior is a first-year member of the program.
Returning all-state players: Alex Grimes, Marley Kilcrease.
Coach Cindy Hawthorne said: “Our core group is our junior class.”
Holy Spirit
Outlook: Holy Spirit should be strong again this season even after replacing four starters. Senior Addie Jones, the lone senior and team captain, is a pitcher and shortstop who batted .396 and finished with nine wins and 143 strikeouts last season. She is the last remaining player from Holy Spirit’s 2022 1A state championship team. Eighth grader Margaret Taylor led the team with a .424 average and stolen bases and was named to the Tuscaloosa News All-Area team. Sophomore Lauren Duco-Moore led the team in RBI, triples and doubles last season. The Eagles ran off eight straight wins near the end of last year and made the regional, where they ran into state runner-up Hackleburg. Holy Spirit will compete with South Lamar for the 1A Area 9 title.
Seniors: Addie Jones.
Coach Doug Simpson said: “We should be strong again this season. Near the end of the season we ran off eight straight wins.”
