On Sunday night, the Alabama Sports Writers Association presented the Miss Softball award to Hewitt-Trussville High School star Corey Goguts.
Goguts is the 23rd recipient of the ASWA’s highest honor for a softball player in the state, and joins Kenleigh Cahalan (2022) as the second Miss Softball winner from Hewitt-Trussville. She was recognized at the ASWA’s end-of-year banquet at Jacksonville State University on Sunday evening.
Goguts capped off her career with another spectacular season, batting .618 with a 2.140 OPS, hitting a state-best 29 home runs with 91 RBIs, 14 doubles, 11 triples and 109 runs scored, tied for tops in the state. She did all that while being walked 52 times, nearly a quarter of her plate appearances for the season.
She was also named the Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year on June 5 and helped the Huskies to a second state title in her three years in the program. Hewitt-Trussville has now won five state championships in the last eight years.
Goguts will head to Ole Miss in the fall. She headlines the Super All-State list released by the ASWA in tandem with the Miss Softball award, comprising the top 10 players in the state this year, regardless of classification.
